“What is the name of the God that the Israelites kept worshipping and it made their God angry to the point He divorced Israel?”
Answer: BAAL!!
Now, somoene asks us, “What’s the name of YOUR God?”
And we answer, “God.”
“uhmm…no, I mean your God’s name, what is His name that you call on Him?”
We answer, “God.”
“Hmm…”
God: A generic term referring to any kind of supreme being.
The definition to God is a generic term referring to any king of supreme being that you chose to worship.
Now, what is the NAME of your God?
And we answer, once again, “Umm…God.”
‘hmm.. no, that’s not what I mean, ah…”
You have seen that there are different gods with their own names and we don’t seem to know the name of our God but call Him, “God”.
In Acts 17:22-25, the apostle Paul was walking about and he noticed a group of very religious people and Paul took the time to investigate their altar of worship, the things they used, their services. On their altar, Paul noticed an inscription, “TO AN UNKNOWN GOD” on it.
“I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD”. Now what you worship as somehting unknown I am going to proclaim to you.” -Acts 17:22-25
Paul realized that these people did not know the name to their God. Paul took an opporunity to minister and teach those people the real God’s name, and His name is “YHWH”. He went forward to explain to them that YHWH, the Most Powerful is the One that created the world. YHWH does not live in temples for us to go to in order to see Him, or must we carry a wooden idol to have His presence, nor must we carry any items to get His attention. No! YHWH is spiritual and is All Powerful.
YHWH.
Paul also explained that in this world there are many gods and many lords.
“For even there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many gods and many lords)…” -1 Corinthians 8:5
“Satan, who is the god of this world…” -2 Corinthians 4:4
We might be confused and wonder which God is really telling the truth? This one? No, that one? No, this one?

The most Poweful God’s name is YHWH.
Maybe you will say, “Uhmm…How did you know about that name? Where did you get this information from?”
This information can be found in Exodus, back in the time when Moses left Egypt to escape from Pharoah. He was out in the wilderness being a shepherd. One day he saw a flaming bush and the voice from the flaming bush began to talk to Moses. The voice told Moses that he is the chosen one to go to Egypt and deliver the Hebrews, taking them out of Egypt. While having a conversation with the Voice, Moses asked, “Well, when I go to Egypt and tell Pharoah to let your people go, what do I tell the Pharoah your name is?” The voice replied, “Tell Pharoah my name is, “I AM WHO I AM”.
I AM WHO I AM is what YHWH means.
“YHWH said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites, “I AM has sent me to you.” -Exodus 3:14
Again in Isaiah, YHWH mentions that YHWH is HIS name and to take note of that.
“I am YHWH, that is My name! I will not give My glory to another or my praise to idols.” -Isaiah 42:8
“…This is My name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” -Exodus 3:15
Notice YHWH does not say, “I have different names you can choose from to call me. Take your pick. Create a name and call me whatever you want.” Oh, no, He didn’t say that. He was specific saying over and over in the Scripture that His name is YHWH. That is the name to call upon Him. It is an ALL POWERFUL name.
“Let them know that you, whose name is YHWH, that you alone are the Most High over all the Earth.” -Psalms 83:18
Perhaps you will feel, “Hmm… the name YHWH is a Hebrew name. I am not a Hebrew (or a Jew). I speak English.”
I understand.
For your information, Satan is a Hebrew name for the devil and in English, his name is still Satan. The same thing goes for Sarah. It is a Hebrew name and in English it is still Sarah. Ah, Daniel, too, is a Hebrew name as well. My name is June Ann and I’m an American. My passport spells my name as “June Ann” and when I go to Japan and the people there ask me what my name, it is still going to be June Ann.
The same applies for YHWH. His name is YHWH spoken in Hebrew, hence in English, it is still the same. YHWH. There are no vowels in Hebrew so in English the spelling in order to pronounce the name YHWH is a little different: Yahweh *or Yahuweh.
HEBREW: YHWH
ENGLISH (for pronouncation): YAHWEH or YAHUWEH
Notice the first part of the name YAHWEH has a “YAH” in it. This is where HalleluYAH comes from. Hallelu means “Praise to” and YAH means “YHWH”.
Back in the days of the Pharisees, the Pharisees took note that one of the 10 Commandments was not to use YHWH’s name in vain. The Pharisees feared that the people would accidently use YHWH’s name in vain, vain, and vain so they added a man-made rule to not use the name YHWH any longer. It was forbidden and subsitute names must be used instead such as “Elohim” (meaning All powerful), “Adonai” (meaning Lord), or any other names. They knew that YHWH was a powerful name to speak out and it must be highly respected and honored. Throughout many many and many years, the name YHWH left people’s minds and hearts. It gradually dissapeared from them. It was forgotten. YHWH was “Adonai” and “Elohim”.
YHWH sent his Son to Earth to reintroduce His name. He spoke saying about the Kingdom of YHWH being at hand. “The Kingdom of YHWH is at hand!” The Pharisees were bothered by that, that the Son had used YHWH’s name boldly. The Pharisees regarded that it was blasphemy and it was very wrong to use His name, YHWH.
Ah, take this event, one time when Yahushua entered Jerusalem on a donkey, the crowd was singing songs, “Hosanna” to YHWH. The Pharisees truly did not like this and they rebuked Yahushua saying for him to tell the crowd to be quiet. Yahushua replied saying that if he did tell the crowd to be quiet, the stones would take their place to cry out YHWH’s name. This tells us that the name YHWH is very important.
“The whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise YHWH in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of YHWH!”…Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Yahushua, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” -Luke 19:35-40
Y’know, Yahushua came here to encourage people to use His name, YHWH, because:
His name, YHWH, brings power…
His name, YHWH, brings joy…
His name, YHWH, brings healings…
His name, YHWH, brings love…
His name, YHWH, brings forgiveness…
His name, YHWH, brings many many powerful things…
Why is this so? Because His name is REAL and is not made up. His name is very powerful.
YHWH-Elohim (YHWH all powerful). Now, because we know and understand this, we can begin to honor Him.
When someone asks you, “What’s the name of your powerful God that made this world?” You can now rightly answer, “YHWH”.
“…Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and the name of his Son? Tell me if you know!” -Proverbs 30:4
“Therefore My people will know My name…” -Isaiah 52:6
